The Shireen Bellot Bursary
The Shireen Bellot Bursary was founded by her graduating Class of 2013, who, moved by Shireen's legacy, saw it fit to honour her name by championing what Shireen would stand for - perseverance against all odds. During her time at the Convent High School from 2006 to 2013, Shireen displayed incredible strength after a year of battling cancer, missing a full year of school, her CSEC exams, and graduation. In remission from her osteosarcoma, Shireen returned to school with a prosthetic leg and faced every obstacle with remarkable courage and grace.
Shireen returned to Form 4 to restart her CSEC subjects upon syllabus changes, and Class of 2013 grew exceptionally close to the fighter. The bright, industrious, meek, determined Shireen not only graduated from CHS, but managed to achieve one’s in Caribbean history, Principles of Business, Integrated Science, English, Information Technology and two’s in Spanish and Mathematics in the 2013 CSEC examinations.
9 years later, upon preparation for their 10-year anniversary, Class of 2013 learned that Shireen’s cancer had returned. Shireen did not get to see the 10-year anniversary, so this bursary is in her honor. The Shireen Bellot Bursary symbolizes her commitment to making a difference. While it may not save a life, we hope it will transform someone's life because of what it stands for - hope, courage, tenacity, and resilience.
Lastly, Shireen was a very devout Christian, so we say a prayer for the applicants and recipients. We pray for all students who are facing hardships of any kind, that they may find the necessary support for their education and daily living. We also pray for their academic success and community involvement. Additionally, we pray for teachers to emulate Christ's virtues of chastity, charity, kindness, and diligence in their interactions with students.
The Shireen Bellot Bursary stands as a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the impact we can make when we come together to uplift and empower others..
