Christianna Paul and ZebidiJah Maxwell participated in a Scratch IT competition hosted by The National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) for Girls in I.C.T Day (April 27, 2017).

Scratch is a programming language used to create interactive stories, games and animations.  It helps students to work collaboratively, practice systemic reasoning and to think creatively.

Each group was asked to create an animation using the Scratch programming Software based on one of these themes:

  • How can I.C.T be used in Agriculture to make it more efficient?
  • How can you use I.C.T to improve supplemental education?
  • How can you use I.C.T in health care to improve the efficiency of healthcare systems?
  • What can the NTRC do to promote I.C.T?

The CHS team (Technical Knockout) chose the theme Health because we see many ways in which ICT can greatly improve the efficiency of of our Healthcare System in Dominica.

The animations were judged on the following criteria for a total of 100 points:

  • Technique - Selection and Application of Materials; Complexity/level of tools used
  • Creativity - Originality and Concept
  • Visual Appeal - Quality(neatness and craft) and Aesthetic Quality (design, composition, color tones)

The CHS team Technical Knockout won the Grand Prize of $1500 for the Convent High School and $1500 for the Team.  Orion Academy won the Viewer's Choice Award. Christianna and ZebidiJah are very proud to be the winners of the Scratch IT Competition and to have represented Convent High School.
