On 1 March 2012, the CHS Alumni Association of Ontario -  former students of the Convent High School - officially handed over 100 chairs to the Convent High School.

The Alumni Association had several fund raisers in Canada over 2011 as means of procuring the chairs for the school.

The Assistant Treasurer Mrs Nettie Charles-Owen along with a few Executive members and some of the Association's  membership were on hand to officially hand over the chairs.

The alumni members were entertained by the choral speech students with a rendition 'If'.  Following the ceremony light refreshments were served in the school's auditorium.

The chairs have been assigned to the first forms.

Speech of Mrs Charles-Owen
Members of staff, students, invited guests, fellow alumni, a very good morning to you all.

My name is Antoinette Charles-Owen, graduate of Class of 1974 and I bring you warm greetings from Dominica Convent High School Alumni of Ontario (DCHSAO).

A few years ago, a group of us living in Toronto and sharing a common dream to give back to our Alma Mater got together to form what is now known as the  Dominica Convent High School Alumni of Ontario.

We held our inaugural meeting on January 10, 2010 during which nine executive members were elected.  Today we have Ms. Loraine Dorival – Event Co-ordinator, Mrs. Ziska White – Assistant Secretary, myself – Assistant Treasurer.  The vision of the Dominica Convent High School Alumni of Ontario is to become a solid foundation of integrity and sustainability on which the Convent Prep/Convent High School can rely for continued support.

Our mission is to provide assistance to the Convent High School and support the school in its many endeavours.  To promote fellowship and unity amongst CHS alumni living in Canada in social, cultural and business areas.  We encourage volunteer ism and provide programs and services to the community.

To date, the  Dominica Convent High School Alumni of Ontario held several successful fund-raising events and as a result we are proud to say, has been able to purchase 100 new chairs for the school.

Our focus for 2012 will be on establishing a mentor ship program for selected students as well as making our very popular event Summer Splash even bigger and better in order to increase our cash flow to be able to offer even more assistance to the school.

In closing, we thank you for the opportunity to give something back to a school which gave us so much.  I thank the teachers and support staff for their dedication to the school's success and I wish all you students success in your studies.
