Convent High School Receives Sisserou Award

Convent High School was honoured with Dominica’s second highest award, the Sisserou Award of Honour at the Independence Day celebrations held on November 3, 2008 at the Windsor Park Stadium.

The Award was received by the school’s former principal, Sister Hilda Verdonck (ICM) and present principal, Mrs. Josephine Dublin. The two were escorted to the across the grounds by former awardees Mrs. Dorothy Leevy, former principal and Mrs. Bertha Toulon, former teacher of the school.

The citation reads:

By: His Excellency Dr. Nicholas Joseph Orville Liverpool, Dominica Award of Honour, President of the Commonwealth of Dominica

To: The Convent High School

Whereas you have rendered dedicated and faithful service to the Commonwealth of Dominica in the field of education for the past one hundred and fifty (150) years;

And whereas you have become renowned for the consistent excellence of your students in the area of academics, sports and cultural activities.

Now, therefore, I, Nicholas Joseph Orville Liverpool, President of the Commonwealth of the Dominica as aforesaid, by this my warrant do grant and confer on you the dignity and honour of the Sisserou Award of Honour which I am empowered to bestow on those persons who have rendered meritorious service to the Commonwealth of Dominica.

And I do further order that by this my warrant that you be awarded the Medal of Honour in recognition of your services to the Commonwealth of Dominica.

Given under my hand and the Public Seal of the Commonwealth of Dominica this third day of November, 2008.

In celebration of this achievement, former students of the school participated in a march in school uniform on 4 November as part of the street parade.
