A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Lysander’s Message to Hermia before their escape
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM:
LYSANDER’S MESSAGE TO HERMIA BEFORE THEIR ESCAPE
If we were to escape this night
Into a forest of dreams
And if upon my eyes, a sprite!
Would juice his magical leaves
If when I open my eyes, sweetest dear,
My heart would still be closed
To you, my one-and-only true love
Yet to another disclosed
If when I wake away from you
As far you had me stay
I loved another so desperate
And you would cry so grey
And imagine in this same forest here
All of nature is at war
The King and Queen at each other tear
For a changeling boy of four
But Love is not the mender of all
As you will soon see
That enemies are enemies after all
And for her a fight will be
But worry not, true love will win
And order restored again
By Theseus and a little magic
Despite the mischief of a hobgoblin!
So I ask you dear, holding you tight
Though confusing this tale might spin
Will you run with me this warmed night?
Away from your father’s din?
