Wolf Blood

She had been running for hours now and still there was no sign of her. Where could she be? She stopped momentarily at a fork in her path, and sniffed the air. There was a familiar scent emitting from the left. It was a faint scent and she couldn’t place it. Cautiously she drew nearer to the left path. An icy fear gripped her heart as she recalled the metallic scent. Blood. She was positive. She could almost taste it in her mouth. She picked up speed, praying she wasn’t too late.

She stopped once again when she came to a large, crystal blue lake. The scent of blood was over powering now but there was no causality or carcass in sight. She sniffed the air, hoping for a clear trail but all she could smell was blood. It was filling her nostrils rapidly as if attempting to suffocate her.  She looked around furiously still attempting to find a clear path.

Suddenly the sound of a snapping twig reached her ears. She stood still listening intently for more sound. None came but she knew she was not alone.

“Show yourself!” she demanded. Still no one appeared. “I know you’re there. Now show yourself.”

A sleek looking wolf with a silver coat stepped into her view. A nasty growl escaped her throat.

“Alric.” She spat. “I should have known this had something to do with you.”
