The Convent High School JAYS Ltd. Under-16 netball is certainly continuing to make their mark of excellence in sports. Since winning the 2008 National School’s Netball Ball-O-Rama, The Under-16 Netball team won their games convincingly against the St. Martin’s Secondary School (SMSS) and the Pierre Charles Secondary School (PCSS).

The first game was held on Tuesday 18th February 2008 at the Convent High School court. The results were 19-3. CHS captain, Omean Charles scored 13 goals out of 23 attempts. Teri-Ann Nelson scored 3 additional points out of 11 attempts.

Coach and Physical Education Teacher, Mrs. Julia Douglas-Johnson, was happy for the win but certainly dissatisfied with the shooting and certain areas of performance of the team. She felt that the potential and competence of the students were not reflected in the scoring. She challenged them to do much better in the rest of their games.

Following this advice, the very next day, at the Dominica Grammar school court, the Under-16 team made light work of the Pierre Charles Secondary School Under-16 team with a final score of 37-5. Not only did the students double their previous score, but the general performance was improved. Omean Charles scored 19 from 27 attempts while Mershanna Winston supported with 18 goals out of 25 attempts.

The Under-16 team will look to win their zone when they take on the Dominica Grammar School on Friday 29th February, 2008, right here at the CHS court. If successful the team will face the runner up of Zone B in the semi finals. Zone B comprises of teams from Goodwill Secondary School, Portsmouth Secondary, Castle Bruce Secondary and the North East Comprehensive School.
