Isabella Prentice, head of the Geography Department and Principles of Business teacher at Convent High School, was named the Secondary School Teacher of the Year. The announcement came at a well attended awards ceremony at the Arawak House of Culture on Saturday, January 26.

The ceremony was hosted by the Ministry of Education, Sports, Youth Affairs and Human Resource Development in association with the National Bank of Dominica.
Prentice said she was pleased to receive the award.
“It is an honour,” she said. “I accept it, not only on my own behalf, but on behalf of all the teachers at the Convent High School.”
Prentice also expressed her dedication to the continuation of her career in teaching.
“I love teaching. I always have,” said Prentice. “I enjoy helping students to be the best that they can be.”
Principal of the Convent High School, Mrs. Josephine Dublin, also expressed her elation at the presentation of the award to her colleague.
“I have always known Miss Prentice to be an excellent teacher and the honour is well placed,” said Dublin. “She is a well-rounded person who is known for going far beyond the call of duty. As principal, I am also happy that this award has come during our celebration of our 150th anniversary. It represents the excellence that Convent High School has continuously displayed over the years.”
