The Sagicor Financial Corporation in collaboration with The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) and the Caribbean Science Foundation will host their annual Sagicor Visionaries Challenge once again. Students of all secondary schools island wide as well as students of the Dominica State College under the age of eighteen (18) are eligible to enter. Not only can the students enter but the competition is also open to the teachers as well.

The aim is to identify a challenge facing your school or community and use Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to develop an effective, innovative and sustainable solution to this challenge. Interested students are to contact a Mathematics or Science Teacher at the school for help with developing their ideas and entering the contest.

The winning student along with an accompanying teacher will be flown by Sagicor to Florida for seven days. While there, they will have the opportunity to visit locations such as the Kennedy Space Centre, The Museum of Science & Industry, Disney EPCOT Centre and the University of South Florida. The winner will also have lunch with an astronaut. Students do not need to currently have a US Visa to be afforded these opportunities, as Sagicor will provide an all expense paid flight to Barbados so one can be obtained.

Groups can be formed to compete, however, only one student-the leader- will be allowed to travel. Nonetheless, all other group members will be awarded! Students who are interested must submit an abstract report by October 13th 2014.
