CHS Captures Third Place in The ECCB Regional Contest

On the 26th April 2013, a presentation ceremony was held at the Convent High School to award two students, Jawole Joseph and Nia Sorhaindo who placed third in the region in the first ever Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Business Innovation Contest. This contest formed part of the Bank’s Public Education Programme and its main aim was to promote innovation in economic development in the youth of the region.

‘It challenged the competitors from across the ECCU to conceive an innovative business idea and submit the concept with a supporting business plan.The winners were then selected from a pool of 157 entries from secondary schools and sixth form college students.’ (ECCB News Release) Nadia Browne of the Montserrat Secondary School captured first place with her ‘Fruit ‘N Fit’ idea, while Keivor Delpleche of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College, St Kitts and Nevis placed second.

Jawole Joseph and Nia Sorhaindo presented their business proposal as an art and entertainment centre (The Arts) which targeted the youth of Dominica, and encouraged their involvement in the country as well as the discovery of their talents.

Ms. Sherma John of the ECCB and Mrs. Suzanne Piper and Ms. Amanda Scotland of the National Bank of Dominica (NBD) which sponsored the competition in Dominica, presented Jawole Joseph and Nia Sorhaindo with a monetary prize to reward the two students for their exemplary work.

At the ceremony Ms. John and Mrs. Piper urged the student body of the Convent High School to participate in any future competitions, not only to receive awards, but to represent the school and country and to make themselves aware of ways in which they can advance their country’s development.

Jawole Joseph and Nia Sorhaindo were extremely grateful to the ECCB as well as the NBD and promised to try their best to one day make their proposal become a reality.
