As one of the many activities of Literacy Week, to inspire awareness and appreciation for the natural environment, the Convent High School had a special assembly in recognition of Earth Day. We know that our world is in greater peril now than ever before. Hence, we need to join together to protect the planet we share and create a GLOBAL GREEN ENVIRONMENT.

In recognition of this, some students of forms 3-2 and 3-3 did an interpretation of God’s Grandeur which was written by Gerard Manley Hopkins and coordinated by Miss Natasha Nation. He says that the world is charged or empowered by God’s greatness. Man, however has destroyed God’s beautiful creation in order to fulfill his materialistic desires. Every generation has trod the earth and left a mark leaving it seared. In spite of all of this our ever forgiving God continues to be merciful and to allow nature to renew itself.

The students, as well as Miss Nation, also performed a creative dance to a song entitled Earth Song by Michael Jackson. The dance was well coordinated and well received by both the staff and students. It also helped to bring out the central message, that we need to take care of our environment. If not us… who? It is all the little things we do which help to create the type of hazards our world is experiencing these days. Now, it is up to every one of us to show our appreciation to God, by taking care of the natural environment.
