My participation in the Youth Parliament is an experience that I will never forget. It taught me to “think on my feet”, overcome sheer nervousness and afforded me the opportunity to express myself in the area of public speaking.

The day started with us choosing our respective sides of the house. I decided to choose the opposition side because I felt more comfortable debating the topic area. Although many of us were prepared; having written two essays, we still had to think on our feet as we were limited to about 4 minutes.

We, the participants, felt we were doing something positive and the ministers of government who were present gave us their support and made us feel comfortable and at ease. I was elated to be in the presence of so many Ministers of Government at one time.

This youth parliament allowed me to do what I never thought I could. I never imagined myself as a youth parliamentarian. I thank the organizers for allowing me this forum for expressing myself.

This achievement would not be possible without the help and support of firstly, The Almighty Father the source of my strength, my family, principal, my speech coach, miss Kimone Joseph, my colleague Leah Dodds ,the members of the Convent High School Communication Club and my friends for their unwavering support.

Technology has changed our world and it will continue to change our world, BUT, to an extent. We will still be able to recognize society in the next ten years. I quote the following from my presentation:

Those involved in Science and Technology are doing all they can to balance the revolutionary changes that have happened in the past. However we must recognize that change, good change must come. All in all, The Great Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The moment the slave resolves that he will no longer be a slave, his fetters fall. Freedom and slavery are mental states.” We are not slaves to science and technology; rather, we have dominion over them all.”
