Give Peace Another Chance

On Friday 22nd January 2010, the Convent High School celebrated World Respect forlife Day under the theme "Give Peace Another Chance!"

The assembly commenced a little after 8:50 a.m. with the passing of the "PeaceTorch" by the policemen or Peace Brigade to the Convent High School. Itwas accepted by Mrs J. Dublin. 
On Friday 22nd January 2010, the Convent High School celebrated World Respect forlife Day under the theme "Give Peace Another Chance!"

The assembly commenced a little after 8:50 a.m. with the passing of the"Peace Torch" by the policemen or Peace Brigade to the Convent HighSchool. It was accepted by Mrs J. Dublin. The torch was left to burn throughoutthe entire assembly. It would then be passed to the Isaiah Thomas SecondarySchool after the assembly was over. A prayer was then recited to bless thetorch and immediately after, the entire national anthem was sung, followed bythe welcome address given by the deputy head girl, Daustina Commodore.

The Sixth Form Sisserou Singers directed by Ms. Pearle Christian sang a movingpiece adapted from the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi entitled"Instrument of Peace". This was followed by a bible reading, read byYende Grell- the head girl-from Philippians 4:5-9, and the playing of"Sound of Silence" by the Convent High School Band.

To give thanks and praise, six bidding prayers were read by the captain of thesix sports houses, as well as an instrumental piece played by the flautists ofthe Henkel- Muriel Music Studio. A speech was given by the "CharacterCounts" co-ordinator, Mr. Thomas Holmes, followed by the launching of theConvent High School yellow "Respect Pillar".

The assembly continued with a series of lively and uplifting events and wasended with the school song, then the sign of the cross and a few words from Fr.Cuffy. The assistant deputy head girl gave a vote of thanks officially endingthe morning's event.

The entire assembly was broadcasted live by the media houses of DBS (DominicaBroadcasting Service) and Marpin 2K4 Ltd.
