The story Children of the Spider is about a girl named Mayali, who escaped from her home land ‘Zolpash’, in search of her father. Along the way, she meets some friends, who are willing to risk facing the law, to help her in her quest. The main characters in this story are Mayali and Joseph. Mayali is a fugitive from her home land, who found her way to Guyana through a special portal, seeking her father. Joseph, on the other hand, is a deaf young man, who has been gifted with the ability to communicate with Mayali and many others through ‘The Spider Touch’, and despite his disability, he is able to analyze situations and is able to find solutions to them. As the story progressed, the characters found themselves in many predicaments, one of which is trying to escape from the ‘Brothers’ who are the rulers of Mayali’s home land, who are in search for her, to bring her back to Zolpash. My favorite character in this story was Joseph because I admire his ability to analyze situations very well and come up with solutions for them, I also like that he did not let his disability get to the best of him and he enjoyed life and did what he wanted to do when he felt like doing it.

In this story I can relate to Mayali to a certain extent because if I am really passionate about obtaining something, I would try to take all necessary measures in order to obtain this thing, which is similar to Mayali’s situation, because she was desperate enough to work with people whom she did not know, so that she would be able to find her father. I’ve also shared similar feelings with Mayali, because once I put my mind to something, I would not let anyone or anything act as a hindrance between me and that special thing.

Yes I did enjoy reading this book because I admired Mayali’s perseverance throughout the story and the lengths she went just to find her father. I do not have a favorite part in this book because I personally thought most of the events which occurred were quite interesting and mind captivating. Although I did not have a favorite part of the book, I did have a least favorite, which was the dog fight. In this part Daisy who was Captain Mackenzie’s dog was put to fight Chloe who was much bigger than him. It was planned beforehand for Daisy to lose to Chloe so his mouth was tied so he could not fight back, but after dodging and trying to fight back he received a fatal blow to his neck. This book is great as it is, and there is nothing I would wish to change about it.

This book is a must read, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking to increase their vocabulary, or just for a good book on a whole. For anyone who is interested in adventure books, this is definitely the one for you.
