Mattie J.T. Stepanek- A Tribute

Published: Tuesday, 31 May 2011 Written by Gail Parillon

Mattie, the advocate,
Mattie, the hero,
Mattie, the giver,
Mattie, the peacemaker,
Mattie, the teenage boy,

Who gave his all to the world,
yet expected nothing back,

Mattie, born with a disease,
cursed to be almost immobile,
for life,

His life span was restricted,
five years the most,

But he outlived the skeptics,
to the ripe old age of fourteen,

Until death took him one day,
to the place he so believed in,

Heaven

His legacy lives on,
Although he could not move,
he managed to move the hearts of many,

Although he could not do so by his actions,
he did through his words,

As it is said, ‘the pen is mightier than the sword.’

This young, immobile boy proved this true,
Mattie, his philosophy never changing,

'Remember to play after every storm!'

Which brought resolve to those,
much more blessed than himself,
But felt like he was the most blessed of all,

And his motto kept firm,
to draw peace from the hardest hearts,
to cure wounds, flowing with dark red vengeance and spite,
And he did so,

A boy,

A dream,

And a computer,

With only one message to share:

'Think Gently, Speak Gently, Live Gently',

Mattie J.T. Stepanek,

I hope you are in eternal peace,
looking gently upon the world,
that you left truly touched,

A saint-like boy,

A living incarnate of the voice,
of the world,

With one mission, a single word,

PEACE

Mattie, the advocate,
Mattie, the hero,
Mattie, the giver,
Mattie, the peacemaker,
Mattie, the teenage boy,

Rest well in P.E.A.C.E.
